Turkey Give-a-Way’ outfits SWFL families with Thanksgiving staples

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Lee County, Harry Chapin Food Bank and dozens of volunteers distributed turkeys, side dishes and hurricane relief supplies to more than 400 Southwest Florida families in advance of Thanksgiving.

Held Nov. 19 at Boys & Girls Clubs’ new Park Meadows Community Club in Fort Myers, recipients at the Turkey Give-a-Way snaked through the parking lot and received frozen turkeys, stuffing, cake mix, macaroni and cheese, fresh cucumbers and oranges, canned fruit, pancake mix, soup, canned ham, water, peanut butter, cereal and snack foods. Additionally, families received children’s shoes and books, blankets, tarps, hygiene products and other hurricane relief supplies.

Nearly 60 volunteers from the Boston Red Sox, Hertz, Lee County Sheriff’s Office and other organizations helped distribute items.

“We’re so appreciative of the partnership with Harry Chapin Food Bank and all of our volunteers to pull off our inaugural Turkey Give-a-Way,” said Denise Gergley, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Lee County. “So many families are struggling right now, and it’s gratifying to help create a perfect Thanksgiving dinner for those who need a lift this holiday season.”

We want to thank Harry Chapin Food Bank for providing the turkeys and food to support our community, our volunteers for all their help and our Boys and Girls Clubs of Lee County staff who made it a great success! Check out the photos below!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
