The Boys & Girls Club of Lee County hosted a successful 9th Annual No Limit Texas-Hold’em Poker Tournament was held on Thursday, June 24th at the Crowne at Plaza Hotel at Bell Tower Shops. Almost 100 players and guests join in the fun to support a great cause. The event was sponsored by our World Champion Sponsor: Scanlon Auto Group, who has supported us all 9 years, as well as Lake Michigan Credit Union (LMCU), Total Electric, TriCircle Pavers, Busey Bank, Vino Investment Advisors, Coppin Ferry Insurance, Barron Collier Companies, BP Roofing and the Crown Plaza Hotel at Bell Tower Shops.
High energy was in the room all evening and we CONGRATULATE the tournament winners: Robin Teague (1st place), John Kraus (2nd place) and Giuseppe Carvelli (3rd place). These stars played a great game and generously donated a portion of their winnings back to the Club.
The evening began with cocktails and food from local restaurant donations including, PDQ, Fine Folks Pizza, The Brass Tap, the Crowne Plaza Hotel, and Coca-Cola Florida. Our event chair, Justin Stockman kicked it off with a vivacious welcome then introduced BGCLC’s CEO, Denise Gergley. Denise shared the organization’s vision and a story of one of our members whose family has had to deal with great difficulties this year and was in need of summer program to attend. Thanks to a kind volunteer, she was given a scholarship to attend our summer programs. Mayor Kevin Anderson, who was an attendee, was moved by the story and he decided to share his story as a member of the BGC when he was a kid. His encouragement as well as the compelling story shared, helped us raise $8000 for scholarships for other kids in our community who are in need. In total, the event raised almost $45,000.
The Boys & Girls Club of Lee County’s mission is to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Since 1972, the BGCLC has served our community by providing a safe environment and exciting activities. We offer year-round programs for kids ages 6-18, including afterschool hours during the school year, and full day summers programs that include sports, STEM and music programs, homework help and more. It is with the support of our community through events like this, grants and donations, that help us fulfill our mission every day!
